EASTERN CABARRUS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Official Site of the ECHS Museum in Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina

About Us
The Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society was organized in 1973 by citizens of Cabarrus County who volunteered their time, labor, and money to preserve what was once the campus of the North Carolina College and the Mt. Pleasant Collegiate Institute (MPCI).

Today, the museum consists of the main building and an adjacent building, known as Society Hall.  Restoration has now begun on this building.

The museum is located in the heart of Mt. Pleasant's historic district.

There are 30 rooms in the main building, housing many artifacts from the Eastern Cabarrus and Mt. Pleasant area.

Please enjoy your visit.

The main building, completed in 1855, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.  It is one of several buildings of the former campus.
